Belairdirect
Created an award-winning insurance app that introduced, for the first time, digital proof of insurance on a mobile device in Canada.
Achievements
- Shipped 6 native apps for Android and iOS under a white-labeling strategy, code once for all brands
- First insurance company in Canada to offer a Digital Proof of Insurance
- Cut mailing costs by an estimated $1M CAD a year by replacing the paper proof-of-insurance slip with the in-app version
- Awarded the Octas Prize in 2018
The Pink Slip, Retired
Proof of insurance used to be a paper slip, mailed to every policyholder and kept in the glovebox, easy to lose and easy to forget. Moving it into the app solved both sides of that problem at once: drivers always had it on them, and the company stopped printing and mailing it to everyone who opted in.
An estimated $1M CAD a year in postage and envelopes, saved by a card nobody has to carry anymore.

Belairdirect APP
Launched in August 2017. The white-labeling strategy we built into this first app, code once, deploy for every brand, became the template for the two apps that followed it.
Intact Insurance APP
Launched in Q2 2018. We refactored the codebase to carry a second brand, so Intact got a full native app without building one from scratch.
National Bank Insurance
Launched in Q3 2018, working with National Bank's own team to keep the brand consistent. The white-labeling investment paid for itself here: this one shipped in under a month.
Octas Coup de Coeur Prize, 2018
This work won the Octas Coup de Coeur in 2018, recognizing it among Quebec's best digital projects that year. It was a team win: Design, Engineering, Claims, Operations and Legal all had a hand in it.

From One Pink Slip to Three Insurance Brands
What started as a way to get rid of the paper pink slip became the foundation for three insurance apps. The digital proof of insurance saved the company an estimated $1M CAD a year in postage, and the white-labeling strategy behind it let Intact Insurance and National Bank Insurance launch on the same codebase in months instead of years.
